Two-factor authentication is essential in keeping your account and contact data secure, but there may be times when you don't receive your 2FA code.
We understand how frustrating this can be, and we're here to help!
Here are some troubleshooting steps to take if you are having trouble receiving your 2FA code.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Several factors can block or delay the delivery of two-factor authentication codes. These include:
VoIP Number and Landline Restrictions:
Two-factor authentication codes are not sent to VoIP numbers or landlines.
If you're trying to sign in for the first time and you receive an error stating your number could not be verified, it is likely because the mobile number on file for you is a VoIP or landline. If you need to update this number to receive your two-factor authentication code, reach out to support@textinchurch.com with the mobile number and ask for a human to adjust this for you.
Blocked Shortcodes:
Devices often block messages from unknown senders or specific shortcodes. This can prevent the delivery of 2FA codes.
To unblock a shortcode:
- On Samsung devices: Go to the "Messages" app → Tap the three-dot menu → Select "Spam & Blocked" → Unblock any shortcodes.
- On Google Messages: Check the settings for any blocked senders or shortcodes.
- On iPhone: Settings > Apps > Phone > Blocked Contacts
Device or Service Issues:
Occasionally, issues with your device or mobile service provider might disrupt SMS delivery.
For example, poor network coverage is a common contributing factor.
If you are not receiving the 2FA code on your phone, try the following steps:
Restart Device:
Restarting the device can resolve temporary issues affecting message delivery.
Check Signal Strength:
Ensure the device has adequate network coverage for receiving SMS messages.
Switch to Mobile Data:
Turn off Wi-Fi and switch to mobile data. Some SMS messages may fail to come through while using Wi-Fi networks.
Review Device Settings:
Confirm that your phone is configured correctly to receive SMS:
- Check that "Do Not Disturb" mode is disabled.
- Verify that you have adequate signal strength and can receive other text messages.
- Check with your provider to confirm if short code texting is allowed on your plan and that they have not blocked the shortcode on your behalf.
- Check if you can receive other text messages.
- Check if the message is being filtered to another inbox, like an 'unknown senders' folder, on your device.
