Can I Turn Off 2FA for Text In Church?

Two-factor authentication is required in Text In Church and cannot be turned off.

This feature was implemented to ensure the highest level of security for your church's information, especially in light of the recent data breaches making headlines in the news.

The protection and privacy of your church's and community's data are paramount to us!

Why is 2FA required?

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring not only a password but also a verification code sent to your device.

This helps prevent unauthorized access from bad actors, even if someone knows your password.

It's important that your contact's information is kept as secure as possible and protected from unauthorized access.

Are there any alternatives to the current 2FA method?

Yes! You can update your two-factor authentication (2FA) preferences by navigating to Settings > My Profile and scrolling down to the Authentication Method section.

To change the authentication method, follow these steps:

  1. Sign In: Log in to your Text In Church account using your current authentication method.

  2. Access Profile Settings: Go to Settings and select My Profile.

  3. Update Authentication Method: Locate the Authentication Method section, click Change, and choose your preferred method: SMS, Email, or Authenticator App.

  4. Save Changes: Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm your selection and save the settings.

You can choose from the following options:

  • SMS (Text Message): A 6-digit code will be sent via SMS to the mobile number listed in your User's profile for secure login.

  • Email: A verification code will be sent to your User's email address for account access.

  • Authenticator App (TOTP): Use a QR code to set up a third-party app that generates secure codes every 30 seconds, even when offline. (Recommended)

This allows you to select the method that best fits your security and accessibility needs.

If you encounter any issues with a particular method (e.g., not receiving an authentication code), reach out to support for troubleshooting help.

To further enhance your account security and manage access efficiently, there should be a User for each person who needs access to your Text In Church account.

Note:

Having their own User allows you to better track activities like who is sending a message, improves overall account security, and they can have a 2FA code to go straight to their phone when they log in!

Unavailable Verification Methods or Shared Credentials

If the phone or email linked to 2FA is inaccessible, reach out to support with an accessible phone number or email to have this adjusted.

Avoid sharing credentials as it may lead to login issues and security risks.

To resolve this, add Users to your account so they can receive the 2FA code directly and to protect your account's security.

Receiving Unexpected 2FA Alerts

If you receive a 2FA code unexpectedly, when you are not trying to sign in, this can indicate someone is trying to sign in using your credentials. Immediately reset your password.

Use the 'Forgot Password' option on the login screen or update it via the 'Profile' tab in Settings.

Ensure team members have unique login credentials by adding them as separate users in the Users tab of your Settings in Text In Church.
