Message Variables are a piece of code that can be inserted into a message that upon delivery will be replaced with a specific value. The “First Name” message variable can automatically insert the first name of the recipient into the message when it is delivered.

With Text In Church, you will be able to create custom Message Variables that you can insert into any message. They can be used to insert your church website, your Facebook page, any staff member’s email address, or even your service times! This will save you so much time by not having to manually type that information into the message each time.

To get started:

  • Sign into your Text In Church account.

  • Go to your Account Settings in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.

  • Select “Message Variables” from the menu.

This will then take you to your current Message Variables.

To create a new Message Variable:

  • Click the + in the top right corner.

  • In the first box, you will type the Variable Name. This will be what you type into your message to deploy the Message Variable

  • In the next section, you will click the drop-down menu and select what kind of information you will be adding. Since we are adding our website, we will be clicking “Link”

  • In the last section, we will add our website link.

  • Click “Add Message Variables” button to save changes.

You will then be able to see the new Message Variable at the bottom of your list!

Edit your Message Variable:

If you need to edit the link, you can click the pencil icon to the right of the link:

You can then change the link inside of the box, then click the blue check mark to the right of the box to save your changes:

When you want to add this website link to a message, you will type {WEBSITE} into your message. That will then replace {WEBSITE} with Textinchurch.com in the message when it is delivered to the recipient.

Using Message Variables in Messages:

To use a Message Variable in a message:

  • Create a message.

  • In the body of the message type your message. When you are ready to add your Message Variable, type {WEBSITE}

  • When you see the purple bubble around the Message Variable, then you know you have typed it correctly.

  • Continue creating your message.

When you look at the message in the Sent folder of your Messages tab or in the Message builder, you will see the purple bubble listed.

But when the message is delivered to the recipient, it will be replaced with the correct value. You can see in the Conversation History below that the website link was actually sent, not {WEBSITE}.
