What Changed With Sales Tax on Text In Church Invoices?
Text In Church is legally required to collect sales tax in certain states. That means if your church or account is based in one of those states, sales tax will be added to your subscription charges going forward.
If your account is not based in one of these states, nothing changes for you.
Which States Are Affected?
Right now, sales tax applies to accounts based in these four states:
Washington
Louisiana
Hawaii
Iowa
In these states, sales tax is required regardless of non-profit status. That means even if your church is a registered non-profit, we are still required to collect sales tax on your subscription.
When Did This Start?
Washington, Louisiana, and Hawaii: Sales tax began being collected on invoices dated July 1, 2026.
Iowa: Sales tax began being collected on invoices dated September 1, 2026.
If your account is in one of these states, your next invoice after the effective date is the first one that will show the sales tax line.
How Is the Sales Tax Amount Calculated?
The sales tax amount is based on your state and local tax rates. Because rates vary by city and county, the exact amount can differ from one account to another even within the same state. You will see the calculated tax as a separate line item on your invoice so you can see exactly how much was added.
Do I Need to Do Anything?
No action is required. The sales tax is calculated automatically and added to your invoice. Your payment method on file will be charged for the new total.
We also sent an email to every active account based in these states, letting them know about the change. If you did not see that email, check your spam folder or reach out to Support so we can confirm your account is on file correctly.
I Am a Non-Profit. Do I Still Have to Pay?
For accounts in Washington, Louisiana, Hawaii, and Iowa, yes. These states require sales tax to be collected on subscriptions regardless of your non-profit status. There is no exemption process available in these four states.
Non-profit exemptions may apply in other states where we collect sales tax. If that becomes available for you, we will let you know directly.
Who Do I Contact With Questions?
If you have questions about the sales tax line on your invoice, reply to your invoice email or reach out to our Support team. We are happy to walk you through the numbers on your specific invoice.
